Dr. David L Jones, Ed.D., MA, LPC-S, ITEC

Dr. David L. Jones, a native of Muskegon, Michigan, grew up in a family of six siblings under the guidance of his devoted and God-fearing mother, Patricia Ann Pickens. Her unwavering faith inspired Dr. Jones to lead a selfless life dedicated to service and compassion, particularly for the least, the last, and the lost.

As the Founder/CEO and Lead Therapist of Wellspring Family & Community Institute in Houston, Texas, Dr. Jones oversees a comprehensive mental and behavioral health agency. Wellspring includes services like Wellspring Home Healthcare, the Wellspring Institute for Research and Education, the “Come To Me” program for children of incarcerated parents, and the acclaimed Michael Pollard YOGI Bear Mentoring program for urban youth. In recognition of his impact, the City of Houston, under Mayor Sylvester Turner, issued a proclamation dedicating Aug. 22, 2017, as “Michael Pollard – YOGI Bear Mentoring Day” in Houston, Texas.

Dr. Jones is the proud father of his daughter, Dalona BreAnn Jones, who has followed in his footsteps as an educator and community organizer while excelling as a talented singer, songwriter, and composer.

Dr. Jones holds a doctorate in education and administration from Tennessee State University, as well as two master’s degrees—one in counselor education and another in counseling psychology—both earned from Western Michigan University. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Grand Valley State University and an associate degree in behavioral science from Muskegon Community College.

With over 30 years of leadership experience in mental health and education, Dr. Jones has held roles such as school principal, director of guidance and counseling, superintendent of schools, and state consultant.

Renowned for his expertise, he has consistently enhanced student achievement, staff development, and curriculum design while raising state standardized test scores across public and charter schools nationwide.

An accomplished author, Dr. Jones has published works such as Dealing with Relatives in the Church, Black-Eyed Peas for the Soul, and Frankenstein’s America. His accolades include induction into the National Dean’s List, the United States Achievement Academy, and multiple community and educational leadership awards.

Dr. Jones enjoys golf and cycling as part of his leisure activities. Guided by his life motto, “Never hesitate to educate, because education is elevation,” he remains dedicated to inspiring and empowering others.

With over 30 years of experience in education and mental health, Dr. David L. Jones is a visionary leader whose work has impacted communities across the nation. Starting his career in America’s public schools, Dr. Jones served in roles such as Teacher, Counselor, Director of Guidance and Counseling, Principal, and Superintendent of Schools. His efforts consistently led to improved student achievement, staff development, and curriculum innovation.
